A BRIEF HISTORY

Monea Castle was built in the early 1600s by Malcolm Hamilton, a Scottish settler granted land during the Plantation of Ulster. The castle served as a fortified residence, reflecting the unsettled conditions of the time.

In 1641, during the Irish Rebellion, the castle was attacked and burned, after which it fell into ruin. Despite this, its structure remains remarkably intact, offering a vivid glimpse into 17th-century life in Ulster.
