The Marble Arch Caves were formed over millions of years as acidic rainwater dissolved the limestone bedrock, creating chambers, passages and subterranean rivers. The system was first explored in the late 19th century and later developed for guided visits.

Today, the caves are protected as part of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark, highlighting the region’s geological significance on an international level.
